The universe is the totality of everything that exists, including all physical matter and energy, the planets, stars, galaxies, and the contents of intergalactic space.

Mankind and the Scale & Scope of the Universe

There are trillions of galaxies, each containing billions of stars and planets. The observable universe alone spans about 93 billion light-years in diameter and is constantly expanding. Compared to these staggering numbers, mankind is insignificant. The Earth is only one of the countless planets orbiting one of the countless stars in one of the countless galaxies in the universe. The human lifespan is only a blink of an eye in the cosmic timeline. The human developments are only a tiny fraction of the natural wonders and mysteries of the universe. From this perspective, mankind has no material significance for the universe, and that our existence is irrelevant to the grand scheme of things.

The vast interstellar systems that disseminate throughout the universe would continue their age-old dance, free from interruptions or manufactured disturbances. Stars would still be born, collapse into fiery supernovae, and scatter the seeds of new celestial bodies. Galaxies would merge and grow, forming colossal gravitationally bound structures, even if they remain unseen by any human observer. The tapestry of cosmic events would unfold, guided by the laws of the universe, showcasing the indomitable prowess of nature's wonders.

Mankind and the Ecological Balance & Planetary Harmony

Without the presence of human beings, the delicate ecological balance that governs our planet would maintain its harmonious equilibrium. Flora and fauna would coexist, adapted to their respective environments, growing within their niches undisturbed. The intricate connections woven through complex ecosystems, comprising predator-prey relationships and symbiotic dependencies, would work unabatedly.

Mankind is completely dependent on nature for survival and well-being. Nature provides man with the basic necessities of life: food, water, light and air.  Mankind relies on plants and animals for their food, either directly or indirectly. Mankind depends on rivers, lakes, oceans, and groundwater for their water supply. Mankind breathes the air that is filtered by trees and plants. Without these natural resources, they would starve, dehydrate, or suffocate.

Mankind, a Burden

All natural systems are functioning systematically without any bit of human involvement. Despite individual human consisting of trillions of cells, in the enormity of universe, humans are just a speck of sand and a nonentity. 

Unlike hyperbolic claim, humans have to save planet and world. Hyperbole, hypocrisy, treachery, misrepresentation and all other kinds of lies is a distinguishing characteristic of human regardless of their skin color. From material aspect, humankind is a useless, a pollutant and an unnecessary burden. 

Fragility of Mankind

Mankind as matter, in all its supposed strength and resilience, is far more fragile than it cares to admit. Despite lofty achievements and significant advancements, the intricate tapestry of our existence is woven delicately upon a thread of vulnerability. Like a house of cards, one gust of unforeseen circumstance has the power to shatter the illusion of invincibility we so arrogantly portray. Our physical bodies, with their intricate biological systems, are prone to illness and injury with each heartbeat serving as a reminder of our fleeting mortality. Furthermore, our emotional and mental fortresses are tragically susceptible to the relentless pressures of stress, anxiety, and trauma. 

Leave aside terrible calamities like a strong earthquake of magnitude 12 or a heat of 100 degrees Celsius; even a strong viral infection can eradicate the entire human race within hours.

Mind & Thinking

Having mind with thinking capability is another dimension of mankind's role and importance in the Universe. Mind is clearly distinguishable from matter for its thinking attribute and plethora of feelings, emotions and moral sense. 

Man has thinking abilities, is endowed with high degree of intelligence, has verbal and written communication skills, that results in accumulation and transfer of knowledge. This collective knowledge makes it a special entity in the universe. Besides, mankind has moral sense. 

Pursuit of Truth & Knowledge

There is a perspective that mankind's purpose is to seek truth and knowledge. Mankind is the only species that can contemplate its own existence, ask questions about the origin and meaning of life, explore the mysteries of nature and the cosmos, create works of beauty and wisdom, invent tools and machines that enhance our capabilities, establish systems of ethics and justice that guide our actions, and seek transcendence and connection with something greater than ourselves. Mankind is also the only species that can affect its own environment and influence its own growth. Mankind's purpose is to engage in intellectual endeavors, to question, and to uncover the truths of the universe. In this way, uncover and understand the underlying realities of the world. Through rigorous investigation and critical thinking, the pursuit of truth enables individuals to question deeply-held beliefs, engage in self-reflection, and refine their understanding of the world around them. Hence, become active participants in the ongoing quest for knowledge, contributing to the collective understanding of our existence and the cosmos. Moreover, the pursuit of truth fosters personal growth and development. 

Morality & Spirituality

Another perspective posits that the purpose of mankind is to cultivate ethical virtues and moral excellence. Human beings have an inherent sense of morality that gives them a purpose and direction in life, and that makes them accountable for their actions. Spirituality is the experience or awareness of a connection to something greater than oneself, such as a higher power, a higher self, or a higher reality. Human beings have an innate desire for spirituality that gives them a sense of wonder and awe in life, and that makes them seek for transcendence and fulfillment. From this perspective, it has a material significance for the universe, and that their existence is valuable and meaningful.

Special Purpose Entity

Within mankind, fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters, can be greatly different from each other in their outlook and lifestyle. Therefore, individuals reflect and find their own role within grand scheme of things. Fundamentally, for practical purposes individual and then group of individuals set some rules for functioning their socio-politico-economic systems. Many a times, the rules are biased and violated those results in violent outbursts. Majority just follow their own myopic interests. 

From non-material perspective, humans have a special role to play in the grand scheme of things, as they are the agents of progress and civilization, and the stewards of knowledge and wisdom.

One need to discover through one's own journey in life, through exploring basic questions of life, through scrutinising different ideologies, through relationships with others, through exploration of oneself, and through engagement with the world.

Conclusion

In conclusion, man depends on nature for his survival and well-being. Nature is essential for his physical and psychological needs. Mankind is a mere speck of dust in the vastness of space and time, and that its existence has no impact on the cosmic order. As mere matter, mankind is insignificant and irrelevant in the face of the immense and indifferent universe. From non-material standpoint, within the larger design, humanity occupies a unique position as the drivers of progress and civilization, entrusted with the responsibility of preserving knowledge and wisdom. 

Over and above, mankind has moral and spiritual role, as it entails the responsibility to uphold higher principles and navigate life with unwavering integrity. By fully embracing both these roles with audacity and conviction, man can flourish as a beacon of inspiration.
