The universe we are living in is immensely huge and we are merely tiny particles. Yet everything is beautifully designed making it an astounding miracle. How huge ? How tiny ? Means size ? How we take size ? We measure it ? How it is measured? We have scales, weighing machines, meters? We measure in numbers. Mathematics.

Also, whether universe is written in the language or not there is no denying the immense importance of mathematics in natural phenomenon.

This is the very basic use of mathematics. Stock market, Banking jugglery and manufacturing processes all requires quite good knowledge of mathematics. 

Further, manufacturing of aeroplane, missiles, satellite, and their launching in air and space requires very subtle kind of knowledge of mathematics. 

The universe we live in is enthralling and deeply fascinating. It is full of wonders. Certain combination of different elements in a specific proportion gives them its particular form. For instance 1 element of Carbon and 2 elements of Oxygen makes Carbon dioxide while 1 element of carbon and one element of oxygen makes Carbon Monoxide though having same elements gives different outputs with different functions. There are many billions of different objects in universe in which Earth is only one and very very tiny object. They are all in motion and they are moving at certain speed and are located at specific place in the universe. There are different gaseous in the universe and they exist in certain amount. The very location , speed and amount of gaseous makes life possible on earth. If there is variation in these proportion then it will make emergence and sustenance of life impossible. This is mere one example. Knowledge of mathematics enhance one's ability to appreciating this wonderful universe and its elements. 

In fact, order to achieve excellence in any field one needs to have good sense for basic tasks but very acute kind of knowledge of mathematics is essential relative to degree of complexity of process. Complex the process, greater knowledge of mathematics will be required. Therefore, all civilizations and progressive societies have exhibit keen knowledge and appreciation for mathematics to attain their due position in the human history. Those who don't have deeper knowledge and appreciation for mathematics can not have sustainable excellence.
